Ultraviolet Light: What does the Sun really do?

UVA (known as the Aging damage) and UVB (known as the Burn damage) both penetrate through the epidermis and attackes the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis. Not only does the sun age your skin, but you also are at risk of developing skin cancer!
In A Nut Shell:
Collagen Damage= Sagging Skin
Elastin Damage= Premature Aging
Overexposure = Leathery & Thickened Skin

What is a Free Radical?

The discovery of free radicals has led to a new understanding of the role that outside elements play in aging skin. Of all these elements, the SUN causes the most damage. I am constantly telling my clients about free radical damage and how to protect your face from its harsh damage. Then something occurred to me...you may be wondering what a free radical is!

Answer: a free radical is a 'loose' molecule that disrupts regualr cell activity while trying to re-stabilize itself. The molecule becomes unstable and runs away from home, taking up residence wherever it can hook on. This results in an imbalance in the cell which affected the cells ability to nourish itself and eliminate waste properly casueing premature cellular collapse. The skin normally contains a small amount of free radicals and has its own defense against them. However, the stress, pollution and sunlight can cause free radicals to multiply and overwhelm natural defenses. Vitamins and other anti-oxidants help to control free radical formation. These products work to neutralize the free radicals and render them harmless.
